Sheffield Wednesday is one of the clubs in the running to sign Calum Scanlon from Liverpool. The 21-year-old left-back has been linked with a move to the Championship club after impressing on loan at Cardiff City last season. Scanlon featured in eight games for the Bluebirds and played a decent chunk of football for the League One outfit. He also featured in one Premier League 2 game for Liverpool but, after his pre-season performances this campaign, he's started to attract interest once again.
The left-back is unlikely to get any playing time with Andoni Iraola's first-team squad, so a loan move would be the next best thing. And now, thanks to an update from The Athletic, that is exactly what's about to happen. "A number of youngsters will be loaned out but not all before the start of the season, as they may be needed as cover," they wrote. "Calum Scanlon has interest from both Cardiff City - where he spent the second half of last season on loan - and Sheffield Wednesday. He's likely to be among the first on the move."
Joining Cardiff or Sheffield Wednesday would be a smart move for Scanlon as he'd be handed regular game time each week. Not only would this help further his development but it would also help him in his quest to play for Liverpool in the future. Indeed, League One to the Premier League would be a massive jump up in quality but, with the performances that Scanlon put in, it's clear that he has bags of potential.
