Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly considering a move to re-sign Callum Paterson from Milton Keynes Dons. Paterson, a cult hero among the Hillsborough faithful, proved popular during his five years on Wednesday’s books between 2020 and 2025. He made 186 appearances for the Owls, registering 31 goals and endearing himself to fans with his whole-hearted approach. The Scotland-capped utility left last year, dropping two divisions to sign for Milton Keynes Dons amid off-field turbulence in S6. According to The Wednesday Word, a move to bring the 31-year-old back to South Yorkshire is being considered. He delivered a 16-goal haul in League Two last season, helping MK Dons seal promotion to the third tier of English football as an all-action forward. His exploits landed him a spot in the League Two Team of the Season - and have seemingly placed him on the radar of his former employers. A new era is being ushered in at Hillsborough but there may be a sprinkling of the past as they move forward. Paterson’s former Wednesday teammate Barry Bannan has also been linked with a return, five months after he left the Owls for Millwall. For Wednesday, striking the balance between youth and seniority in the summer transfer window will be crucial. Regarding recruitment, Wednesday’s new sporting director Simon Wilson said: “My transfer policy is about balance; you need young, exciting players, every club needs its own players coming through an academy. And there were some that came through this season, but it’s hard for them. You need really good senior players, aged 26-30, that can be the best players in the league. Then you need those at 20-24 who are breaking into the team. Then we need senior players, stewards of the club. We want to play in a way that excites the fanbase. I’ve been working with Henrik Pedersen, he was very specific about how he wants to play, which is great for me. But we’re an attractive club to come and play for in this moment. It’s not about finding players, it’s about choosing the right ones.”
