Sheffield Wednesday are set to return to their halcyon days with the announcement of a new deal with Umbro, a much-loved retail manufacturer. The deal is expected to be made in due course, with the club's CEO, David Bruce, having once again playfully declined to comment on the identity of the new kit manufacturer in a fan meeting on Monday evening. The switch to Umbro is seen as a necessary one, with the previous deal with Macron being terminated early due to its less-than-favourable business terms. The new deal will see the club working with a partner who is more suitable to the Wednesday they want to be, in line with the history and heritage of the football club. The timelines on the rapid turnaround of the new deal mean that kits will be available to buy a little later than ideal, but the club is working hard to ensure that at least the home kit will be available to buy in the Megastore in the week leading into the season opener, a Carabao Cup clash set for the weekend of August 7. The club's CEO, David Bruce, explained the time pressures on the eventual release of the kit to supporters, stating that timelines on these things are normally 12 to 18 months, but they have given themselves two and a half or three months to get the kits ready. The plan is to be ready with at least a home kit, and hopefully an away or a third, for the first week of August. This is a significant departure from the usual timeline, but the club is hopeful that they will be able to meet their ambitious goals.
