Sheffield Wednesday's chances of signing Jamie Vardy have been given a boost as the Leicester City striker has hinted at a potential return to his boyhood club. Vardy, 39, has been linked with a move to S6 after Leicester's relegation to League One. The former England international has been a free agent since his relegation from Serie A with Cremonese. He has been linked with an emotional return to his hometown club Sheffield Wednesday, who released the marksman as a 16-year-old. Vardy has started his own podcast, named 'Jamie Vardy's Having A Party', sparking fears his iconic career may be over. However, the former Leicester City and England star has moved to allay fears. On the podcast, he said: 'I'm not going to give up playing just yet but it's something more for later down the line.' He was also asked about the possibility of a return to Leicester, who he represented with distinction between 2012 and 2025. The Foxes recently suffered relegation to League One and will lock horns with Wednesday next term. Vardy said: 'Nah, that's gone. I'll always support them (Leicester) and follow them, that's the best thing I can do now.' Fans do not tend to get excited about the capture of players closing in on 40, but the signing of Vardy would generate plenty of excitement in South Yorkshire. Vardy weighed in with seven goals across 29 Serie A outings last summer, showing he still has his trademark eye for goal. After the turmoil Wednesday have had to endure, it would be heartening to see one of their own pull on the famous blue and white. There is a clear emotional appeal for Vardy, who has never hidden his affection for the Owls. A move to S6 would mark a return to Yorkshire for the frontman, who cut his teeth in non-league football with Stocksbridge Park Steels and FC Halifax Town.
