Sheffield Wednesday has recently honored its historical captain Ambrose Langley by installing a new headstone at his grave. Langley, who was born in 1870, captained the club during a pivotal time, leading them to their first league title in the 1902–03 season. After over 30 years in an unmarked grave at Burngreave Cemetery, this new headstone was unveiled thanks to a fundraising campaign led by two dedicated historians. Clive Nicholson and Tom Crawshaw, who are related to Langley's former teammates, raised more than £5,000 to ensure that Langley's contributions to the club are remembered. Nicholson discovered Langley's grave while researching his great-great uncle, Fred Spiksley, and was shocked to find it unmarked. He expressed gratitude for the support from today's fans, who recognize Langley's importance in Sheffield Wednesday's history. Alongside the headstone, a commemorative booklet celebrating Langley's life and career was also produced, further solidifying his legacy within the club.
